Terms of sale.
The plain-English rules for buying from Luis online. Last updated 21 October 2026.
1. About us
These terms apply when you buy from luisalvarezarts.com. The seller is Luis Alvarez Art & Interiors Limited ("we", "us"), registered in England and Wales (Company No. 14874620), registered office 74 Commodore House, 2 Admiralty Avenue, London E16 2PY. You can reach us by email at info@luisalvarezarts.com or on WhatsApp or phone at +44 7711 373168.
These terms are for customers buying as consumers. Nothing in them affects your legal rights as a consumer.
2. The artwork
- Originals and antique images are hand-painted by Luis on antique book pages and antique images. Each is one of a kind. Marks, ageing, foxing and texture on the old paper are part of the piece and are not faults.
- Prints are art prints of Luis's original pieces, printed on A4 or A3 paper with a white border, so the artwork itself is smaller than the paper. Each print page shows the paper size and the approximate artwork size.
- Apparel, tote bags and notebooks carry Luis's artwork and are made to order, so they take 7 to 10 days to be made and shipped. Sizes are shown on each product page.
- Colours can look slightly different on different screens. Sizes are approximate.
- Some pieces contain strong language. You buy them knowing what they say.
3. Prices and payment
- Prices are in pounds sterling (£) and include any VAT that applies.
- Delivery is shown at checkout before you pay. See Delivery & Returns for the full price list.
- Payment is taken securely by Stripe when you place your order, by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or any other method shown at checkout. We never see or store your full card details.
- Discount codes, such as Private View welcome codes, can be used once per order, cannot be swapped for cash and cannot be added after an order is placed.
- If we make an obvious mistake with a price, we will tell you and give you the choice of paying the correct price or cancelling for a full refund.
4. Your order
- When you pay, your order is placed and you will see a confirmation with your order number. Our contract with you starts at that point.
- Because originals are one of a kind, a piece can very occasionally sell at the stall at the same moment it is bought online. If we cannot supply something you have paid for, we will tell you straight away and refund you in full.
- We may refuse or cancel an order if we suspect fraud, or if the order breaks these terms. If we do, we will refund anything you have paid.
5. Delivery and collection
- We deliver to the UK and to the countries listed at checkout. Anywhere else, Luis can quote you. Delivery prices are on the Delivery & Returns page.
- Luis packs every piece by hand. Delivery times are estimates. If something is going to be late, we will tell you.
- You can also collect free from the stall at Jubilee Market Hall, Covent Garden, on a Saturday or Sunday.
- The piece becomes yours, and is your responsibility, once it is delivered to the address you gave us or collected.
- Outside the UK: import duty, local taxes and customs charges may be added by your country when the parcel arrives. These are paid by you and are not included in our prices or delivery charges.
6. Your right to change your mind
If you buy online, you can cancel for any reason within 14 days of receiving your order (for a collected order, 14 days from collection). Tell us by email or WhatsApp, then send the item back within 14 days of telling us.
- We will refund the price and the standard delivery charge within 14 days of getting the item back, or of you showing us you have sent it, whichever is sooner. We refund to your original payment method.
- You pay the cost of sending it back, unless it is faulty or not as described.
- Please pack it carefully. Items should come back in the condition you received them. We may reduce the refund if an item has been damaged or handled more than you would need to look at it, for example if it has been framed, written on or the paper has been creased.
This right does not apply to commissions or anything personalised, because they are made to your specification (see section 8).
Buying at the stall: pieces bought in person at Jubilee Market Hall can be exchanged, but are not refundable unless they are faulty. You pay any postage for an exchange.
7. If something is wrong
If your piece arrives damaged, faulty or not as described, message Luis with a photo as soon as you can. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you can reject it for a full refund within 30 days of delivery. After that, we will repair or replace it, or refund you if that is not possible. Hand-painted variation and the natural character of antique paper are not faults.
8. Commissions
- Luis agrees the details of a commission with you in writing before he starts: the words, colours, size, background, price and an estimated finish date.
- A 40% deposit is paid to book your commission. Luis starts once the deposit has been paid. The remaining 60% is due when the piece is finished, before it is delivered or collected.
- The deposit is non-refundable. It secures Luis's time and materials as soon as it is paid. If you cancel after the piece is finished, the full price is due.
- Small changes can be made while the piece is in progress. Bigger changes after the design is agreed may change the price or timing, and Luis will tell you first.
- Every commission is hand-painted in Luis's own style, so it will not be an exact copy of any reference image. Antique pages and images vary, so the background you receive may differ from examples you have seen.
- Because commissions are made to your specification, they cannot be returned because you changed your mind. They can still be returned if they are faulty or not as agreed.
9. Copyright
All artwork, designs, photos and text are © Luis Alvarez. Buying a piece gives you the piece itself, not the copyright. You may photograph it and share it on social media (please tag @luisalvarezarts), but you may not copy, print, sell or reproduce the design. This includes commissions: the copyright stays with Luis unless we agree otherwise in writing. Luis may share photos of commissioned work in his portfolio and on social media. If you would rather he didn't, just tell him.
10. Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses, as our products are for personal use. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
11. Things outside our control
If something beyond our reasonable control delays or prevents an order, such as postal strikes or severe weather, we will tell you as soon as possible. If the delay is long, you can cancel and we will refund you for anything you have paid for and not received.
12. Complaints
If you are unhappy, please message Luis first on WhatsApp or email info@luisalvarezarts.com. He will do his best to put it right quickly.
13. Your information
We use your details only to handle your order and enquiries, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
14. The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
