Funny bathroom signs for guests (that aren't from a garden centre)

The best funny bathroom signs are written like serious house rules, so guests do a double take. Luis Alvarez's Please Don't Do Cocaine in the Bathroom is the classic, hand-painted in London and sold as prints from £20. Frame bathroom art behind glass or acrylic and keep it away from the shower.
The guest bathroom is the most underrated wall in your home. It's the one room every visitor goes into alone, door locked, with nothing to look at but your walls. Most people waste it on a seashell print or a sign that says "Relax, Refresh, Renew".
I'm Luis, a pop artist in Covent Garden. My most famous piece is a bathroom sign, and it has been photographed in more guest bathrooms than I can count. Here's what makes a bathroom sign genuinely funny, and how to hang one so it survives the steam.
Why the bathroom is the perfect place for a joke
- Captive audience. Every guest reads it. Every single one.
- Private reaction. People laugh out loud alone, then come back and talk about it.
- Small wall, big impact. One A4 or A3 piece fills it perfectly.
- It starts conversations. "Who painted the sign in your loo?" is a great dinner party question.
What makes a bathroom sign actually funny?
Most shop-bought bathroom signs are puns about toilet paper. The funny ones work differently: they're written like a serious notice from the management, about something nobody would ever put on a wall. The deadpan delivery does the work.

Please Don't Do Cocaine in the Bathroom is my signature piece. It looks like a sincere house rule, it's painted in big black letters over bright colour, and it gets read out loud at every party. It comes in several colourways so you can match your tiles, and there's a "Come Share" version for generous hosts.

Bathroom signs as a gift
A funny bathroom print is one of the easiest presents to get right. It's a joke, a piece of art and a housewarming gift in one, and it goes straight onto a wall that nobody else is fighting over. It suits new homeowners, flat-sharers, the friend who hosts every party and anyone who has ever queued for a bathroom at a house party. Add a frame and it's ready to hang the same day.
Airbnb hosts and holiday lets
House rules are part of hosting, so why not make one of them funny? A framed bathroom print sets the tone, gets photographed and shared, and makes your place memorable. Just match the joke to your guests: the cocaine sign is perfect for a city flat full of friends, maybe less so for a family cottage. For something cleaner, This Ain't the Ritz does the job without any explaining.
How to hang art in a bathroom (without ruining it)
Bathrooms are hard on paper. Steam, splashes and temperature swings all take their toll. Follow these rules:
- Always frame it behind glazing. Glass or acrylic keeps steam off the paper.
- Keep it away from the shower and bath. The wall facing the toilet is ideal: maximum reading time, minimum splashes.
- Use a sealed frame. A frame with a proper backing board keeps moisture out better than a clip frame.
- Open a window after showers. Good for the art, good for the walls.
- No sticky putty on the print. Hang the frame, not the paper.

What size for a bathroom?
A4 is perfect for most bathrooms: big enough to read from the toilet, small enough for a narrow wall. On my A4 prints the artwork sits at about A5 with a white border, which looks great in a mount. Got a bigger wall? Most of the cocaine colourways come in A3 for £79.
